The rise of contemporary fascists champion themselves as “Western chauvinists.” They aren’t doing something new, they’re doing what colonizers have always done: prided themselves as the warriors on the frontier. The bravado of the colonizer and conquistador is to present yourself as the savior while eradicating, subjugating and decimating those they claim to bring their salvation to.
This is old language. This is a long standing issue. No matter what the liberals say about “this isn’t us” in the face of staunch oppression and systemic abuse, this most definitely is what empire always has been. But it is not who or what we, as a species, are.
This class is going to focus on the realities of ongoing colonialism; how and why it spreads, the ways it hides in patterns of historicization and dismissal, the nature of genocide, and the realities of ecocide. Civilization is not a biological entity, but it is a parasite upon them. Our goal here is to look at the ecology of relationships and entanglements colonialism relies upon, so that we can understand their weaknesses.

Audio from the online class. Roughly 3 hours.
